  • Harper Lecture with Professor Omri Ben-Shahar – Cleveland – October 6
    Professor Omri Ben-Shahar explains his view that the consumer protection movement is largely misguided. He questions whether individuals actually read disclosures, need access to courts, or benefit from legal remedies. He argues that these protections can sometimes backfire and hurt consumers more than help them. Click here for more information or to register.

  • University of Chicago’s 500th Convocation – Chicago - October 9
    The University will celebrate its 500th Convocation at a special ceremony in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. Each unit will have lectures scheduled for alumni.

    The Law School welcomes Judge Michael W. McConnell, ′79, United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit (until August 31, 2009), Director (as of September 1, 2009), Stanford Constitutional Law Center, Stanford Law School as its speaker.

    A panel of legal scholars and practitioners will discuss key cases from the 2009-10 docket and the impact, if any, of the Court's new composition. Moderated by Barry Sullivan, '74. Panelists include M. Todd Henderson,'98, Assistant Professor of Law, University of Chicago Law School; Jeffrey W. Sarles, AM'71, Partner, Mayer Brown LLP; and Alison Siegler, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law, University of Chicago Law School.
